The Cyberknife therapy is a gentle treatment for the whole body, including sensitive areas of the body. Precise sub-millimeter radiosurgical treatment effectively eliminates trigeminal neuralgia in selected cases. The surrounding healthy tissue is thereby spared maximum. The treatment lasts on average 30 to 40 minutes, is unique and is carried out on an outpatient basis. When a trigeminal neuralgia is treated with a radiosurgical procedure such as the Cyberknife, the somatosensory sensations on the face are preserved in most cases.

Study results indicate that the cyberknife system is a safe and effective treatment option for people with trigeminal neuralgia.

A study conducted by Prof. Pantaleo Romanelli, CyberKnife Center, Centro Diagnostico Italiano, Milan, Italy, evaluated the clinical benefits of the Cyberknife system as a treatment for patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN). A cohort of 103 patients was treated with a 60 Gy dose in a single fraction with the cyberknife system.

At six months, over 90 percent of patients showed significant improvement in their symptoms. The system also offered the opportunity to re-treat 24 patients who relapsed two years after the first treatment.
